Relating cone penetration resistance to sand state using the material point method

چکیده
Cone penetration tests (CPTs) can quantitatively inform about the mechanical state of a sand. However, relating measured cone resistance values to sand requires complex back-analysis processes occurring in soil during test. This paper provides new evidence value added this area by modern large-deformation modelling based on material point method (MPM). It is shown that accurate simulation relationship between and be achieved, condition constitutive behaviour – especially its critical features adequately modelled over wide range confining pressures. study relies predictive capabilities NorSand model, shows how previous calibrations endeavours from literature (based triaxial test results) support MPM unrelated CPT results obtained through calibration chamber tests. simulations ever-increasing quality will positively impact art interpretation procedures, date still largely simplified cavity expansion theories.

evaluation of cone penetration resistance in loose silty sand using calibration chamber
this paper highlights the effect of silt content on cone tip resistance in loose silty sand. in this study, twenty-seven cone penetration tests are performed in saturated silty sand samples with several different silt contents ranging from 10 to 50 percent. the samples are consolidated at three overburden stresses including 100, 200 and 300 kpa. it is shown that, as the silt content increases, ...
متن کاملUsing the material-point method to model sea ice dynamics
[1] The material-point method (MPM) is a numerical method for continuum mechanics that combines the best aspects of Lagrangian and Eulerian discretizations. The material points provide a Lagrangian description of the ice that models convection naturally. Thus properties such as ice thickness and compactness are computed in a Lagrangian frame and do not suffer from errors associated with Euleria...

A Method for Predicting Pile Capacity Using Cone Penetration Test Data
The massive construction in poor lands has encouraged engineers to use deep foundations in order to transfer superstructure loads to the subsoil. Since soil excavation, sampling, and laboratory testing as a part of site investigation are relatively difficult, in-situ tests such as cone penetration test (CPT) as a very informative test may be recommended. The CPT has been widely used in engineer...
متن کاملUsing Miniature Cone Penetration Test (Mini-CPT) to determine engineering properties of sandy soils
In-situ testing techniques have proven to be successful in improving the speed and reliability of geotechnical investigations. One of the most common in-situ methods in engineering geology and site investigation is Cone Penetration Test (CPT), which is mainly used for characterization of soils, as it is a robust, simple, fast, reliable and economic test that can provide continuous soundings of ...
